Description

*Waitlist is closed.*

Process control and SCADA systems are utilized extensively throughout water and wastewater infrastructure. This workshop will recap the basics of how these systems are constructed, and dive into some of the new technologies that are available. Participants will engage in a discussion and explanation of typical components utilized in each of the levels of the control system model including:

•Process Level – Basics of instrumentation theory, and what’s new including bus-communications at the instrument level, and the emergence of internet connected instrumentation.
•Local Control Level – What is the role of the PLC within the SCADA system. How to identify an obsolete controller, what are the risks of a PLC failure, and what is required to complete a PLC upgrade.
•Communications Media Level – What is the role of the communications system, what happens if this is lost. Are communications introducing cyber-security risks to my system and how can I control this?
•Supervisory Control Level – Is the data within my system being turned into useful information that will help operations gain situational awareness? Has your software system kept pace with evolving industry standards?

The workshop will include lecture, roundtable discussion, Q&A, and demonstration formats.
