Description

*Waitlist is closed.*

The acceleration of climate change, operational glitches, poorly maintained reservoirs and longer regional water lines have contributed to treated water chlorine residual loss and challenges in maintaining adequate levels of residuals in distribution systems. Operators are now facing the daunting task of boosting chlorine.

This workshop will assist operators in understanding ammonia-N complications, provide options to boost chloramines and demonstrate how to undertake these boosting strategies.

•Measurement of Total Chlorine, Free Chlorine, Monochloramine, Free Ammonia-N, Total Ammonia-N using HACH DR900.
•Performing Jar Test for Breakpoint-Chlorination to identify the optimal breakpoint chlorination ratio between Chlorine and Total Ammonia-N, including detailed calculations for Jar-Test setup.
•Understanding in boosting Total Chlorine using “free available ammonia-N” in treated water by measuring “free available ammonia-N and monochloramine” with HACH “indophenol method” and associated NaOCl dosage calculation with using proper ratio between chlorine and free available ammonia-N.
•Calculating required NaOCl volume to perform free chlorine residual transfer (from total chlorine) for a slug dosing, using proper ratio between chlorine and total ammonia-N.
•NaOCl dosage calculation for total chlorine boosting and transferring into free chlorine continuously, and associated NaOCl dosing pump setup.

There will also be time for discussion, including difficulties in particular situations and environmental restrictions.
