Description
This Two-day workshop provides participants with information about what should be included in an SOP, processes that can be used to develop the document, and tools that will assist with that development. Workshop participants evaluate their current documentation situation, analyze their needs, develop a structure and content specification for their SOPs, and plan their project. Working in groups, participants will develop a prototype of a typical SOP using tools and processes provided as part of the workshop. At the end of the workshop, each participant will be familiar with practical processes for documentation, tools that can be used, and where to find resources and assistance to ensure success in their own documentation project.
The Course also covers an introductory overview of emergency response planning (ERP) and critical task analysis (CTA). The first half of the workshop provides information to assist the participant in preparing an ERP for their communities’ waterworks system. The second half provides information on the CTA process, including what it is and how to implement it.
Alberta Environment and Parks (EP) requires an ERP to be included with an Operations Plan when an application form is submitted for approval or approval renewal of a municipal waterworks system. A written ERP allows operating personnel to respond efficiently, effectively and rapidly to an emergency situation that may occur during regular or after hours situations.
Municipalities and other organizations need effective tools to identify and minimize risk. Critical task analysis is proving to be a practical process to accomplish that goal.
The course material will include the minimum procedures and sections required by EP for inclusion in an ERP for various emergency hazard scenarios. An ERP template, example description and corrective action response will be provided to the participants. The CTA portion introduces critical task analysis, its relationship to ERPs and SOPs, describes how to identify hazards and task, and outlines an effective process for conducting a CTA workshop. At the end of the workshop, each participant will be familiar with ERP and CTA requirements and practical processes for developing them.
